Engine Temp?

Hello guys! Been a long time since I've been on here!

anyways this is the story..

Driving home last night on the M4 all of a sudden i get a loud beeping noise, and on the console (where it says the date/time/radio station/blah/blah/blah), It come up saying "engine to hot STOP STOP STOP, Engine to hot STOP STOP STOP,", Looked at the temperature level on the speedo and it shot up from half to over the red bar.. with in a couple of minutes.

I've looked under my bonnet, i have water,oil, And it sounds like my radiator is on full blast all the time when ever i start the car.. I can drive for a few miles.. but it will just keep rising till it gets to that level? the engine doesn't seem that hot though when i lift up the bonnet.. ?

Any ideas?

Have you checked your coolant levels?

I had a similar problem with my Audi S3, my tempsensor was busted...

cause it kept telling me car was overheated and the fan was going mad.. but under the hood it seem like regular temp.

Yeah all the coolant levers are normal,engine oils,water levels! So got No idea to be perfectly honest.

It does sound like a failed temp sensor, if the ECU can't tell how hot the engine is then it will go into a panic mode. Best to get it checked out as soon as possible.

^^^^ Yup had the same issue with a previous car and it was the sensor.

Car now running wonderful no more temperature problems starts first time, as good as new!!!

Hi i have a 120 vti & last night i went to start car up & it didnt start first time so tried again & it started but was very spluttery, when i got going the temperature gague was higher than normal & fan was cutting in! Went out to car this morning & it took about 10 seconds to start & then kept cutting out a few times & also noticed the temp gague was sitting normal running temp even thought the engine was cold coz only just started it up after about 10 hours!! Is this the same problem as others on here have had & could it be the temp sensor??? Thanks Charlie

Sounds like it. If the ECU's getting a false high temperature reading it won't supply the richer than normal mixture needed to start a cold engine.

Hi all, managed to get it booked in at local dealer on wednesday afternoon & will let you know the outcome!!! Charlie
