  • Reverse gear grind

Just been to Citroen and booked my car in as when its cold and been sat all day doing nothing i start the car put my foot down on the clutch and wait a couple of seconds and it grinds really loud i lift the clutch and put it back down into reverse and it still grinds. I found that it seems to do this when high idle from cold. I have to leave the car with them overnight on friday and they will try it on saturday. the service manager hinted towards a cable may need setting up correctly as no other gear does it but reverse. When the car is warm it doesnt do it at all and doesnt always do it when cold.

Didn't someone post a similar thing about this happening when they put it in first the other day? May be worth PM'ing them to find out what they do to resolve it.

It may just be a cold weather problem. Reverse gear has no syncromesh so it's more likely to grate when you try to engage it with high idle speed & cold gearbox oil. Try putting it into first before going for reverse.

I havent tried that but I have never had this problem on my other cars such as a mini cooper s which uses the same gearbox to my knowledge. also my Fiesta never did this. I am just worried and its embarrasing as its a brand new car and all people hear is loud grinding in the car park. Hopefully Citroen will be able to adjust something to make it slip in easier as its really starting to annoy me plus it didnt do it when I had it which makes me wonder if something is wrong.

I have seen the other thread about first gear but didnt feel it was relevant to my issue as all the other gears are fine its just reverse. does anyone else have any problems with theirs ???

Had an alfa that I had to put in first before reverse and no the mini does not use the same transmission just the same engine.

Hmm...I'm wondering if the clutch is either not lubricated correctly or you have an issue with the release bearing, you need to get your motor back to the dealer asap to get this sorted mate.
