My fronts are "down" to 5mm after 21,000 miles!

Probably a reflection of the sort of driving I do nowadays - a very high percentage of my mileage is on motorways.

Just for info I have done 74000 and still have 4mm on the rears well one of them as the other had a puncture that could not be repaired these are the original tyres and I'm on my third front set

Second front set were P Zero Nero's but back to conti's now

8k on front bridgestones. Rears lasted 13k. Front contisport 3's not far from being done after 5.5k. Any suggestions on good grippy summer tyres to try next?

Hi all, just had 2nd year service done with 12k on the clock. Was told front tyres were 72% worn. Is this normal for low mileage.
Tyres are Michelin. Previous car was a Fiesta which I had for 5 years and sold on with original tyres.
Seems like DS3's are pretty rubbish on tyre wear.

How about getting a digital tyre depth gauge for a fiver, cos sometimes Techs are a bit liberal with the truth
Just under 20,000 doesn't seem horrendous for the life of a tyre, specially fronts as front wheel drive

What does that mean, 72% worn? Is the wear uneven or are they down to under 2mm? FYI, I'm on the original Pirelli tyres and at 12K I've got 4mm all round.

Most new tyres are around 9mm to bare
you must have 1.6mm tread to be legal, anything less is dangerous and points on your licence

Am guessing that theyve told you, you are just over 2/3rds of the way to 1.6mm
which at a guess is about 3.5 to 4mm.

They will have told you what the lowest point is. The outside of the tyres either side, for about an inch, don't count
1.6mm is needed across the centre section

Its in their interest to not only keep you safe, but sell you tyres too
                            It is called "An advisory"

                            Best check the depth yourself

Ed- you've got a fair few miles left yet

I have a 1.6 diesel and the dealer told me the same at the second service, when I checked them myself they had plenty of miles left until they reached the 1.6mm bands on the tread. I think I changed them around the 25k mile mark, maybe just a bit over that...
