  • Horn going off randomly!

Hi Folks - my DS3 has been in and out the garage about 15 times since June due to engine coolant leakage, faulty thermostat, bust sensors and also a wire behind the dashboard was not correct placed therefore causing my car to breakdown 30 miles from home!

Anyways, I got my car back from garage last Wednesday after they repaired the fault for the loose wire, however the past few days, I have noticed that my horn has start to go off randomly on its own without me having to even look at it, let
alone push it! It seems to happen if I am turning the steering wheel round a few items - i.e - if I am reverse parking, doing a 3 point turn etc.

Just wanted to know if anyone else has had this faulty before I phone the garage AGAIN - they will be sick of the sight of me by now!

    Thanks

Sounds like a short that happened while they were in the dashboard.

      That's a new one!

How sensitive is the horn button on the car, you should need to give it a good push.

Well, I don't even need to push it and it starts! This morning I was driving along into work (I have to go through a very quiet residential area) and it just starting tooting away for about 6 seconds! I hadn't even looked at where the horn button is, let alone press it! I really can't bear for more things to go wrong with this car :-(

on looking back at the history of you issues, you have been given a bad car to say the least, i'd be onto Citroen UK now and dont accept anything until they replace it.

Well you will need to get it back into your dealer for them to resolve, big fingers crossed that will be the last of it for you and you can get back to the job of enjoying the car

Well, the best of it is, I had to send a formal letter of complaint to CUK about recent problems I had and the service I was given (spoken to Citizens Advise about this) - they have until 5pm today to respond or it gets taken further. I actually really love my car, but its ridiculous the amount of problems I have had. My last car was a C2 which I had for 5 years from new - and didn't encounter 1 problem with it. Grrrr - not happy!

Ok - this might seem an over reaction but the horn going off randomly is/could be a safety concern as you cannot predict how other road users/pedestrians will respond !

So apart from being bloody annoying for you the nearest Citroen Dealer needs to fix this asap or say you will speak to Watchdog !

Well have spoken to garage -as soon as I said it was me - they said 'oh christ, what else has gone wrong now?!! I think they are sick of the sight of me! They can't fit me in until 4th September. They offered to disconnect the horn until they get a chance to have a look - however I think that was a bit silly to suggest since I might actually need to use the horn before then for some reason. The horn actually bust at Xmas time last year and I had to get a whole new replacement. Jeez....

I looked around on the net a bit and it seems legally you must have a working horn and if the car was due for an MOT then it would fail if not working properly.

So the garage may be wrong to suggest this at all !

Plus why should you wait 7 working days? It's not your fault (however many) things are going wrong...

How far is it to your dealer?
Might be worth a trip in to bang on the counter/banter with the mechanics

Well - the garage is about 25 miles from home - they say they can't fit it in sooner because A) they are FAR too busy to squeeze me in and b) they don't have a courtesy car for available until this date. So 4th Sept it is. HOWEVER! The plot thickens even further. Before I left work, I was just running my hands over the wheel to see if the horn would toot itself. It didn't at that point - however when I press the actual horn button bit on the steering wheel......nothing! Absolutely nothing! But on the journey home, it started tooting itself again....I honestly cannot tell you all how sick I am of this car! Oh and at the same time they need to fix the horn, the sensor which reads the temp on the display needs fixed as this has just bust and is currently reading 48 degrees!

they wanted to disconnect the horn to make you drive the car without any horn, so they want you now to break the law as well. nice.. more ammunition for the fire. keep digging citroen dealers you might end you in court yet lol.

well my car is apparently getting the stone chip fixed this evening but paint wont be dry and hardened for a few days as yet. hoping to finally get mine back on monday, though i am not holding my breath, just yet. not bad going - 1 week driven, 2 weeks back at the dealers
