    All in good discussion

I have snow socks in the back this time round- got caught earlier in the year
180 mile journey took 15 hours, then right at the end the DS3 couldn't get up a small incline only 150 yards away from my house LOL

Indeed...I am constantly surprised how many people dumb down these tyres, stating that its the Driver and not the conditions
They clearly haven't ever driven with them.
My wife would no what to do in a skid, or understands stopping distances and throttle feathering.....but yet drives almost normally all winter in all conditions.
The brand new Winter Wheels and tyres will be going on the DS3 in a few weeks time..Probably early November...Same time as mine
BTW...I once came across a Merc stuck in a snow drift..He couldn't understand why he was getting no grip from his Snow Chains.
He had fitted them on the front wheels on a RWD car!! He was so embarrassed!!

People do have certain budgets though. That should be considered. So think everyone would have them if it didn't cost
And the storage of wheels/tyres is a pain.

Wheels and tyres shouldn't really be stuck in a cold, damp shed over winter. Will do the alloy surface and tyre compound no favours

So theres more to it, than just winter tyres are good.

And I know the comments "how much to save a life etc etc" but there is more to good driving than just relying on winter tyres

I am just trying to look at it from both sides

My priority is to get Toyo TR1s fitted pronto (Within a couple weeks) and ebay does say all weather- so will investigate that further

Then will have a spare set of rims (Bellones) that could fit Winters on

          You would be surprised.

I don't have a closed mind, its just on the balance of things they would not be worth it in my case. The car isn't used during the week and at weekends it rarely leaves an area that is limited to 30mph. If it was driven on open roads more often then id look into it.

I keep our Summers in the garage over winter and the Winters over summer.....they are always protected with wheel sealer and tyre dressing.
This despite the fact that my tyre Garage will store them for free. Quite a few do.
BTW I got shot of my Toyos T-1R Proxes as soon as I could...Poor tyres in the wet and very noisy...They are NOT 'All Weather'

All I can say is that Ive been recommended them by professionals (Brands Hatch) and the sellers on ebay must be breaking the code of practice, and Trade Descriptions Act, by selling them as all weather then?
Theres a few on here recommend Toyos too. But hey- we all have opinons. Noise wouldn't worry me- cant hear much over the exhaust LOL

                  OK
I had them on my Octavia and were poor...Biggest disappointment was noise
I now have Continentals Sport Contact 5's and they are miles better all round, but much much quieter as well

Yes the Seller is 'pulling the wool over your eyes' and relying upon buyers' ignorance

There is no such thing as 'All Weather' Tyres..There are 3 basic types for 'On Road' vehicles:

                  1. Summer Tyres (What most people have)
                  2. All Season (Mainly SUV cars)
                  3. Winter Tyres

I understand them fine, but spending £500 on tyres that would be on for a couple of months and travel about 600 miles at 30 mph is pointless. They would perish through age before id even worn the pimples off.

                        • Great thread, 2 people with the unshakable belief that their opinion is the only right one. Cyclone just being his normal American self.... Enough said there!

Winter tyres beneficial ..... Obviously yes, particularly further north and in Scotland who experience far lower and harsher weather.

Winter tyres life saving and make up for the lack of driving ability to the degree that 2 people are doggedly banging on around? Talk about making yourself look ..............

                          edit

Sorry forgot momentarily that any opinion other than Robb and Cylone is wrong so I humbly apologise in advance!
