Wasn't sure where to put this but I suppose it IS entertainment but also technical:

    https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...l.torque&hl=en

An app for your Android (not sure if they have an iOS app). Pretty simple- you get an ODB2 reader (plugs in ODB port by glovebox) and that relays all of your engine data via bluetooth to the app (also fault codes). This app reads it and you can display it however you like as a dashboard.

On top of that it will do proper 0-60 timings for you, has a track recorder, g meter and some other cool things.

Think you'll agree it looks pretty awesome and I've just ordered one of the little reader things so once I have it setup I'll post on how well it works (IF it works!).

PS the readers are about 12 quid off amazon or ebay so even if it's a bum unit I haven't exactly wasted any cash.

It's going to arrive on Monday so I'll fit it straight away and let you know with a few screenshots from my phone and also from my tablet.

Already got the app on the phone just to see how it works and the stuff it can display is quite incredible- not sure if the ds3 outputs all of it but I'm going to be be grinning playing with it.

It also has a sweet G meter on it that uses your phones accelerometer- looks very cool, will have to try it up Northumberland

Apps very easy to use- just use the free lite version til I've checked out 100% whether the ODB adapter works properly- Pro has alot more features and you can also get the track day video plugin for it (no need for a go pro)- My phones a Defy and water, shock and dust resistant so makes a perfect outside camera- yes I've checked how good the water proofing is- it's been in my bath, the sea, alot of pints and has also been bounced halfway down a mountain in SA by accident- works perfectly after all that- oh, and am also prone to throwing it at my cat when he's acting himself- also works...lol

And I'm a happy little camper- the adapter works perfectly, it's a bit big or rather where the port is in the glovebox is rather tight so I need to buy an extension cable before I can close the glovebox but the damn worked straight out of the box. Very nice it is too- digital OBD speed readout, boost guage, RPM, intake temp and pressure, coolant temp- you name it, the thing displays it!! Even has a throttle guage as a percentage if you want it.

Will show some pics once I have played it a bit more but so far it works like a charm

For all us left behind by technology what do you need to buy: An app, a cable and a display?

                        1) an OBD2 adapter- plugs into the odb port in your car (in the glovebox), this then relays all the ECU data via bluetooth
                        2) ANy ANdriud device- possibly Apple as well but I'm not 100% sure
                        3) Download Torque Pro

You pair your phone to the adapter (5 secs), start torque pro and choose what displays you want.

Also found and extension cable with one right angle on for 5.99 bringing the cost of everything including buying the pro version of the app to about £20.

Hardest part of the whole thing? Removing the fusebox cover in the glovebox lol

Remember that this will work on any Android device with bluetooth- tablets AND phones.
                        Et voila

For those interested, this is the adapter I got, you can get the same on ebay a little cheaper as well but I get free delivery with Amazon Prime

                          http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B...ls_o00_s00_i00

                          This is the extension cable

                          http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/OBD2-16-pi...ht_1006wt_1396

and torque pro you download from Google Play- free version is free, pro version is £2.48 I think and you get the video plugin for the pro version for free as well

                            Cheers

All I need to decide on is an android device as my phone is not suitable (old Blackberry)
Also are you saying that with the right device Satnav is available on the cheap as well?

Damn right it is. I use Co Pilot and it is fantastic but there are 3 or 4 other ones- all personal preference. I think Copilot Pro is 20 quid including European Maps and Live Traffic. I also use Dashboard pro that gives my speed in big numbers and large shortcut buttons to apps i use in case I need to open one when driving.

There's lots of offers on Android phones at the moment and the Nexus 7 tablet is cheap as chips for what you get as well (should be able to buy in shops 25th)
