I understood the system will not actually play lossless wma files, only up to 128K, so not a question of saving space rather system limitation.

I use this software: http://itunes-export.en.softonic.com/. It allows me to export playlists created in iTunes, complete with the mp3 files, onto my USB stick. The ds3 can read the playlists and play the tracks accordingly. I have playlists for various different moods and styles. And if you set the software option to keep the iTunes folder structure, it means all your songs are put into artist/album files, so you can select by that method as well.

If the MP3's are on your stick you can just export the playlist from iTunes....I should never have doubted the Lord of Bacon!!

That's what I thought... but, unless there is a hidden option somewhere that I haven't found (if there is, please tell! It would be far more convenient), exporting the playlist doesn't actually export the mp3's. So you end up with a list of songs, but nothing to actually play. Trying to then manually edit it and copy the songs over is a real pain. I found the iTunes Export software last week specifically because I was looking for a way to export the playlist AND the mp3's to my USB stick so I could use it my ds3.

I have the music stored in folders under artist & album title so no problem with 999 track index. The only issue storing the files this way is you can't random play all the tracks, you can however select to play tracks by genre and then random play all the tracks of one genre. Currently have over 23.5K tracks on the stick had to reduce bit rate down to 128Kbit mp3 to fit them all on though, normally store them at 192Kbit wma on my media server at home. The only problem with it is the physical size of the stick, there are much neater solutions available but nothing with this capacity.'11 Noir Obsidian Citroen DS3 Dstyle 120VTi w/ darkest legal tint, K&N High-flow filter, carbon side strips, deleted resonator, tech pack. It's a crappy way of doing it but should allow you to at least view and play your files.cyclone> Fish is the man

I have lot of folders, I move from my mac folders sorted by Artist/Album/Songs
I'll try to format the USB Stick in a Windows Machine...

Unfortunately I didn't have the USB port in my DS3 so I'm only going off memory.
Try ensuring that the drive is formatted as FAT over NTFS. You should be able to do this from the MAC.cyclone> Fish is the man

Sorry to bump an old thread.
I was under the false impression that 16gb was all the DS3 could handle until reading this. I put my albums in sub folders by artist so the latest Stereophonics album is in a folder marked Stereophonics and so on.
I take it this means I will be able to play the entire contents of the drive?
Is there any way to get the files to appear on the drive in alphabetical order? At present they appear to be quite random? (not got shuffle on).Last edited by NGM; 03-11-2013, 14:30.
