The inlet manifold was just washed out, it only had oil residue in it.

Be easy looking at £1000 (possibly more) to strip the head and clean the valves, the walnut blasting is a much more viable option
Would the car need leaving for more than 1 day for blasting jamie? Also i dont suppose you ever tested the ds with the aftermarket air filter did you?

the cleaner is put into the unit, pressurised and then added just before the inlet manifold. car is run for approx 10-20mins afaik. it will not clean it totally like Walnut blasting but it better than nothing i guess.Last edited by Toxic; 16-09-2014, 23:20.

All i can see with terraclean is big chunks of carbon getting knocked off the valve then scraped up and down the cylinder wall with nowhere to go lol. Maybe it could work if used as preventative maintenance on clean valves but from what i understand the cost is, u may aswell just get a walnut blast every 2 years or something

As to your theory, yeah, but what are the oil deposits doing without any cleaning. The same thing. I was after all only replying to FINDS3 question.Last edited by Toxic; 17-09-2014, 06:18.

Well I don't really think you can do them at a fixed priced, some will be worst than others, 8 hours or so was spent on mine, @£ hourly workshop rate plus materials. Now hopefully the next one I do will be done in half the time. There was a lot of messing around doing mine. Expect £200-£300 for each job.
Hope it's not a job for life, horrible job to do. Would rather change a clutch on a Scania!White on red THP

Yeah looks a very tight area to work in due to the overhand of the bulkhead. at least with the mini there's more room.

The DS from above the engine is quite easy to work on. But it's all the fiddly crap hiding under the manifold, solenoids, breathers, fuel pipes, vacuum tank, throttle body, push fit plastic clips that don't want to come off grrrrr......White on red THP
