Andy, go the the Scan.co.uk have on the main page go to value series then gaming then PCs. You will see some better specked machine. Yes you will need a monitor and keyboard but the ones given away as part of a bundle on other sites will be woefull, you will replace them within weeks anyway.

Always always always keep your files backed up, I have 2 x 3TB drives just for backing up my music and work documents.

When you reinstall your Laptop OS, have a USB stick ready that contains all the drivers, remember that laptop drivers are specific for the laptop rather than the hardware inside (the opposite for desktops), laptops will have specific drivers for things like fingerprint readers, built in webcams etc, only use graphic drivers from the laptop website, its generally only very high end laptops that can run desktop drivers. Appols if you already knew this.

I do have all my stuff backed up on my Dad's server, but I want a local backup of everything too, so then I won't have to drive for an hour to retrieve copies of stuff if my laptop dies.

And SFG, not at the moment. I couldn't afford to get an SSD when I bought my laptop nearly 4 years ago. Next one will though, without a doubt!
