  • Common Problems?

    Hello again.
Does anyone else have any problems with their fuel gauge? Mine forgets how much fuels on board, and reports random levels.
Sorry, not random. Inaccurate. Anyone else have something similar?

Do you mean the actual gauge (the fuel bars) or the range?

I found the range can vary wildly because it takes into account how economically you've been driving and updates accordingly. In the past mine has gone from 300 to 600 miles.

If it's the actual gauge then I'd take it to the dealer.

Yes. The square blocks don't show the true amount of fuel in my car. If I spent 50 on fuel, the digital block fuel gauge shows nearly full. And that's where it stays for quite a while. (I'll measure it properly next time)
But then after perhaps 300 miles it drops suddenly and doesn't represent the miles driven.
Another time, I was skint. So I used the range measure, (times were very hard this time) so when the range was zero 0 - I put in £5 diesel. Which didn't register with/on the gauge at all....... That day, I dared only 8 miles. So the next day put in another £5, which also didn't register. That time I did approx 15 miles. Finally I put £10 in the tank, which showed up as just under a
                half-full/half-empty tank of fuel.
So from an empty tank, the £10 I added filled it half way.
It makes no sense. Especially if other Citroen owners have the same problem. Because an accurate fuel gauge can't be specialist engineering. Can it?

I'd take it to the dealer and get it checked out if I were you.

You need to add 7 liters to the tank for it to register on the gauge. So that the first 2 times you refueled did not register and the last refill was enough that it all registered at once. The gauge does seem to go down slower upper half than the lower which could be intentional or just because of the level indicator and the shape of the tank. If you feel there is a problem with your car definitely get it checked out cheeper than worrying about it.

I've not seen the issue with rapid fuel bar loss whilst driving and would agree with the others that it needs checking for a faulty sensor or wiring etc

Are you suggesting we should read this so called "handbook" Cyclops?
