  • Modification insurance ****please read*

    Hi all,
I was going to make a few mods to my DSport Plus 155 THP. I was only going to put in a K&N Air filter and a FORGE BOV Spacer.
Thinking about how insurance companies are I decided to ring mine, have spoken to the girl on the line from MORE THAN she told me that they would not insure me if I put either of those mods on my car.
She had spoken to their so called technical dept who said that the mods would not be aloud due to performance gains.
I told her that this was madness as any gains from both of these would be so small having an adult passenger would negate them.
    But she could not budge.
The other interesting thing she told me that i'm not sure she should have is that if you have any significant claim against your insurance an assessor would be called out and he is told to look for any modifications however small so that they can void your insurance.
Guess what i'm saying is be careful with any aftermarket mods such as mine or exhausts or anything else (not sure about re-,maps do know how they could find that)as you will all know when you get your insurance they all ask if the car has been modded in any way, don't lie otherwise your might as well not have any insurance.
Im going out know to put the standard air-filter back in I cant afford to throw away £12K.

by the way im 46 with a clean license with 9 years no claims but that did not matter.
MORE Than Can also go F*** themselves in future.
    good luck.JH

Try Admiral, Elephant or Adrian Flux. They've all been really good for me with mods in the past. Admiral cost only jumped up by an extra £30/40 for the year with an arm-length list of mods

What Dangerousfish said, a lot of insurance Co's only want bog standard cars now, my current one does not allow any performance mods at all so I will be changing next month so that I can have a remap done later in the year... The ones Fish said have been cited before although Adrian Flux were way more expensive than every other quote I received last year

When my insurance was up for renewal (was with Hastings Direct but they don't insure modded cars) I used the comparison web sites first and said car was modified, that gave me a list of insurance companies and quotes from companies that would insure modded cars. Also looks at companies that weren't on comparison sites like DirectLine which as far as I can remember don't insure modded cars. Then looked at the cash back sites. Finally went with Aviva - quote was £270 fully comp, and Quidco were offering £70 cashback, so only cost me £200.

Bargain! I need to do this when I renew. I got shafted last year.

You could just cancel your current insurance and get money back on the months you got left, then re-insure with a cheaper insurer.

Yeah the 3 points and accident (not my fault but they drove off so noone to claim off) don't help me either, haha.

Yep, in hindsight I should have just paid to get it fixed myself.

Mine more than doubled. Just had a quick check and luckily this year it should be a bit more reasonable.

Am surprised at that jackhaigh. Just a new air filter and BOV fitted. Blimey

I had air filter, lowering springs, 63.5mm exhaust, 200 cell catalytic converter, remap to 200BHP, non standard wheels, on my previous THP 150, and my insurance only went up £60. Although my original insurer (Kwikfit) didn't wanna know which concerned me at the start. Admiral was where I went, but have moved on from them now too.

My age profile, no claims and DSport THP were all same as yours too

                            Moral: Shop around

I know it's a little off topic but I would always recommend opting for protected NCD on any policy.
