You can only get caught driving towards it as the speed trap works using a lazer which is bounced back off the vehicle which gives the speed.

I think there is a disproportionate focus on speed with regard to road safety. Most accidents or near misses that I have witnessed have been a result of various things:

- Insufficient space between cars giving less reaction time for the trailing driver.

- Idiotic pedestrians / push bike users (usually teenagers) trying to be the proof for natural selection.

- Non existent lane discipline + changing lanes without indicating or looking in mirrors and blind spot.

- Generally indecisive driving
