  • My soon to be built garage

Forthcoming garage project soon to be started. Myself and next door neighbour (who I share a drive with) have agreed to have exactly the same garages built at the same time. (Looking at the picture, mine will be on the right)

Concrete base is going down this coming Tuesday with the garage being erected 13 days after that.

Been looking at flooring options and initially was steered towards foam interlocking tiles but high costs shut that door.

Carpet tiles it is to be and with me needing 70 50x50cm carpet tiles, wanted them as cheap as possible. Howsabout £1.20 inc. VAT per tile??? Yes please, so picked them up from a very nice chap at his unit in Burnley this morning.

This is a quick laydown of a few of the tiles that I'm going to do a la chequered flag style.

Next on the shopping list is a weatherstop strip for the floor where the garage door meets the concrete,

plasterboards for the walls, shelving units (looking at this Ikea display unit for all my lotions and potions)

    electrics, LED lighting units etc.

    To be continued......

Do insurers still penalise parking in a garage vs driveway parking?

remember reading some articles a while back.

A garage pit would be a nice and handy idea while you are getting your garage built.

That looks fantastic but for me I have no interest at all in needing or wanting to look or work underneath the car. I could however start detailing the underneath of cars; now there's a niche market..... Only joking. Thanks for the great picture Steve, that Spitfire looks lovely.

Nice one Andy but be careful you do not end up like me with a garage that I can not put my car in because it is so full of other stuff!

That's what I'm worried about mate. Bought it as a 40th birthday present to myself to have somewhere to detail cars in the upcoming cold months. I would be defeating the object if I couldn't fit a car in haha.
SWMBO is already making noises of a chest freezer and a tumble dryer.

Freezer and tumble dryer not a bad idea........ Keep ur beers ice cold and the dryer will keep the garage smelling nice, and warm! Lol

i just painted the floor of my garage with concrete paint though it needs another coat where hot sticky tyres have pulled it off lol. hopefully yours will be wide enough new build house and its barely wide enpugh to get out the car and ive put carpet on walls so if i do open door too far it catches carpet

I was really surprised at the dimensions of the garage on our new house, more than big enough to get our two cars in and washer, dryer, jet washer all cleaning stuff etc

Andy, I saw a lady with a cotton wool bud detailing the nooks and crannies on the underside of her Mini once! So caution, you might just try cleaning the underside once, then you're hooked!

I find having room around the garage for detailing the hard bit - even when I had a double garage it seemed a bit of a squeeze when detailing....good for parking in if you have the swing for opening the doors completely for sure.

Re comment on insurance - insurance companies will often give you a discount for parking in a garage - logic more secure against theft of car - I would never go for that option as on the one night you park on drive, car gets nicked and you're not insured as it wasn't in the garage!

                              Regards,
                              Clive.
