Tomweston, if you're only on an 1100D at the moment, I'd go for the 70-300 IS USM if you want a good telephoto. The 70-200 2.8 is a bit overkill on that body but if you're thinking of upgrading the body in the future then it's a great investment. I got mine whilst Canon had a cashback offer on for Euro 2012...£175 back. And I got it on staff discount for £1700 so overall it was only £1525. A bargain considering it's just jumped up to £2000. I'm keeping the 300 cos when my dad retires, I'm going to buy him something like a 600D and give him the lens to go with it.

I very rarely use fully manual unless I want a certain light effect cos all you're doing is setting the camera up in exactly the same way as it would itself in Av or Tv.

The only time Nikon and Canon users join together is when we're laughing at the Sony owners.

You'll almost always see sports photographers using Canon and portrait photographers using Nikon.

My first camera was a Kodak Brownie 127 given by my grandmother, then progressed through many film cameras including an Agfa Rapide and a Zenit. Moved onto digital, Fuji and Samsung compacts, then had bridge cameras and my latest camera is Lumix G3.

I won a Panasonic GX7 and didn't use it for ages but now that I've tried it out, it's bloody good. Really changed my opinion on compact system cameras. I only really use it in auto for snaps but the quality, AF speed and low light performance are all brilliant.

I thought recently I have a problem with my six cameras.
                  1. Canon 1D mkii
                  2. Canon 7D
                  3. Canon eos m
                  4. Sony point and shoot
                  5. Gopro rip off
                  6. Sony Xperia Z1 camera phone

But then I thought sod it not enough lol

Only recently got the 7D and can't wait to use it more.

Also recently got a trigger from triggertrap that uses your apple or android device to trigger the camera in many ways, it's an intervalometer, sound trigger and many more. It's a great bit of kit to play with.

Got one going spare if anyone wants it (canon version) but needs the same connection

7D's an awesome sports/wildlife camera. The mk2 sounds amazing too. 65 point all cross type AF and 10 fps for a start. Can't wait to see it.

Don't fall into the trap of thinking you need a great camera to take great pictures! Some early superb pictures which have stood the test of time were taken on cameras that would be described as "rubbish" today!

                        Composition is everything!

True, but I don't think my El Cheapo Mobile phone and ridiculous shakey hands would suffice

Decent cameras usually start from about £150. Depends what you want out of it but if it's just a good quality shot, don't spend less than £100.
