THP blows the 110 away for sheer exhilaration & driving pleasure, imho.

Wringing it out through the gears - catching the revs just right as you shift - is a sheer delight. The 110 is probably near-as-dammit as fast (apart from a standing start) but it's just not so much FUN!!

Yes, they go wrong. I wouldn't want to own one out of warranty. But when they're working properly (as most of them do, most of the time) they put a smile on your face that a diesel can't hope to match.

And this from someone who's had more than his fair share of THP woes.

The thought of having the 150 is tempting after just selling my MK5 Golf GTI and if all was ok it would be great but the thought of owning such a new low mileage car that can suffer these kind of problems is not sending my pulse racing.
If I can get an extended Warrrnty for my intended duration of ownership I might have another look but I'm just after some trouble free motoring if poss lol.

another trouble THP free owner here...

granted only 3k on my car but touch wood no trouble. And I agree with gar074 - absolutely great big smiles everytime I drive it - and that's after coming from a 3.0 Z4 before the DS3

Don't see why you couldn't extend the warranty either...

              Disagreed,

I didn't say it was faster. Faster isn't everything - it's the way that it does it.

Totally agree with all supportive THP comments (I would wouldnt i)

Dont remap it, dont force it when cold, dont mod it up (Mechanical wise) treat it like twitchy racehorse .

                      For non-THP owners who don't understand, it's kind of a love-hate thing.

After owning a thp engined car and rejecting it, I say avoid like the plague! Interesting a lot of thp owners on here who are shouting its
praises haven't gone past 10 k miles yet!

Gar074 - "working properly - when most of them do, most of the time" - The poll results would defo not back up your statement and don't know how you can write this looking at the experiences of people on here.

I think its a personal thing driving taste. I much prefer petrols to drive, but it is over ridden by my fuel saving head lol

Why I get a little sceptical about the critiscisms of the THP is that yes, the early models had a few problems. But I bet that was a very few cars in relation to those sold.
Say we have, I dont know- what 20 people at best on here complaining of problems- there are 2000 members. Admittedly only a percentage are THP engines, but a lot more than 20 THPs.

But surely they wouldnt still be selling the vehicles if there were loadsa problems

I can only speak from experience and say mines great- and long may that opinion last!

And mebes problems will occur- but hey- lets get real- WHO REALLY JUMPS FOR JOY ABOUT OWNING A DIESEL!!! (Q the jumping for joy)

And fuel savings can end up becoming obsessive- enjoy driving a little without thinking bout the fuel gauge every 30 seconds

I really hope they get the thp engine probs sorted, if they get its reliability sorted, its a crackin engine. X6411 - really pleased for you and fingers crossed it stays like that
C Blue - Thats a nonsense sentence about the joy of driving a diesel - ask diesel owners on here!
