  • Info on the THP?

I'm rejecting my HDI 115 after having a number of faults from buying it brand new. I've had the car less than 3 months! I'm thinking of paying extra to upgrade the replacement, if possible, to the THP. I'm hoping to receive a new car in March. Which THP am I likely to receive? Is it 155 or 156? What's the difference? And is it a much better car than the 115?

If you're getting a new one then it will be the 155. Don't think there is a 156.

I've driven both and the main difference is how the power is delivered, the 115 is slightly slower to 60 but has more torque, the 155 is faster to 60 but sometimes you'll want to change down a gear (or 2) to overtake. If I were you I'd get a test drive and see which you prefer. I personally prefer the THP but I know others swear by their diesels.

    Hope this helps

Out of interest, what were the faults?

Hate to sound like a newb, but what exactly is this "torque"? lol. I found the 115 wasn't slow but it wasn't that funny or sporty either. I'm guessing the 155 is supposed to be the sportier model?

I had an engine fault, loose panels inside and outside, constant rattling and vibrations and the gearbox synchro came out or something

        Torque info http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Torque

In a nutshell the torque figure is the actual force that the engine outputs, Horsepower is just a number that is figured out from torque and engine RPM

So it's the amount of twist to an object? How is that relevant to this? I'm confused

"Horsepower" is how fast you hit the wall. "Torque" is how far you take the wall with you.

I've read that the more hp you have, the more torque potential there is. So surely with a lower hp that would mean less potential for torque too? Am I right to say that torque is like towing/pulling and hp is the push

The torque your engine makes is what turns the wheels of the car. More torque = more force to turn the wheels.

Torque comes before HP. HP is figured out from torque and engine speed

If you get a THP the only Torquing you will be doing is to the AA when your timing chain goes ping and your head cokes up

stick to the weasel burner but a different one

Yep. Right here, bought mine June 2012, 17,000 miles and no issues so far. It still makes me smile every time I get in

Articles suggest that the THP is almost a must have for drivers, rather than the 115. One article even said it's a car you'd nod off in after driving a THP. This is what leads me to think about trying the THP this time

Definitely get a test drive, only way you'll be able to make a proper decision. When you do, make sure you change gear later than you would in the diesel, the THP revs much higher.
