  • Thanks for the offers and information but I'm going to get a new DS3 so just hoping it doesn't come up again while waiting for the new car. The car has been fine since, all the power is present etc.

    • Watchdog Live BBC1 tonight 12th July 2017, The team meet people whose vehicles have suddenly lost power in the middle of the road and ask if one car giants efforts to fix a problem are creating a more worrying concern.

        • Looks like their fix does something to the EGR valve.

          • I like how they say there is absolutely no link between the software fix and cars that were previously driving fine, that suddenly start going into limp mode. They also seem to be replacing some parts and then they offer a 2 year warranty on these parts. Hmmm!!!

Edit: This is to do with WatchDog and VW on BBC1 that pmk was on about and not the thread topic. Sorry.

            • This is what concerned my wife and I and why she declined Audi's offer to 'fix' her A1 diesel......

                Probably a very wise choice!

                • Sorry to open this old thing again but i went through quite a few posts (not all 35 pages though.
i have a DS3 THP since the day they released basically ... so far it has been at the dealer for a total of nearly half it's life i think.

at this moment the "emission" error is on screen on startup and it has no power whatsoever ... the car works fine apart from that but it feels like it has about 60 hp instead of 150 ...

like i said this is the only issue it had been at the dealer so far (apart from normal maintenance)
i live in Belgium and have a shop nearby but they obviously can't help me.
back in 2015 i think i brought it to the main dealership in BE and there they basically replaced the whole drivetrain or something cause BMW had let them know the belt wasn't strong enough and pulled some stuff sideways ...

in some cases the shop resets the system and i can drive around happy for a couple months until the dreaded error returns but in some cases i can't even make the 5 mile ride home without it popping back up.
i've had this since the time the car was a few months old and it still exists with no one having a clue what's going on ... i have given up going to the shop cause nothing will help.

i love this car when it works ... i absolutely bought it as a love at first sight kinda deal but its exhausting dealing with this stuff and not being helped.

anyway i was bored, googled the issues and found this (why i didn't in 2011 or so i dunno, hoped they would figure it out or something) but here i am ... did a solution for anyone come up? can my beloved car be saved? it only has about 48.000 miles on it ...

sorry for the rant, i just don't know anymore ...

                  • Hi and welcome. What took you so long to join us, if you have had your DS3 since 2011??

How many miles/kilometres has it done? Sounds like you have either got the dreaded carbon build up in the intake valves or maybe an issue with the HPFP. If you were in England, I'd say go to SP Tuning for a walnut blast, but I'm not sure if Belgium does this service anywhere.

                    • i know right i should've done this a lot sooner ... i have it at 75.000 km i think more or less ... 46,500 miles?
also i know zip about engines / cars

                      • I'm guessing you haven't had the inlet valves de-coked of carbon build up then, but at that mileage, I would say its more than likely going to be the problem. There is something called a Walnut Blast which clears the carbon deposits, but like I said in my earlier reply, I wouldn't know about its availability in Belgium. It can be done by hand with a wire brush, valve by valve, but that's not for the faint hearted and takes a long time to do.

Have a read of this thread and look at the pictures on page 3:

                        • wouldnt a workshop be able to figure that out on a period of 8 years and a bit?
+ the fact that it started way back when it had a mere 300 or so miles on it?
that and the fact that sometimes after a system reset it runs fine for 2 miles and sometimes for months (but that might be the readout that gives on different points i guess) ?
i also don't have an issue in idle like i seem to read on that post on a glance ... also when it does work for months wouldn't i be noticing that it struggles?

i absolutely don't want to come across as saying u are wrong though ... i will take this info to my dealer ...
i do feel that at least someone should have checked that over the years ... especially the biggest dealer in Belgium who said to me they took most of the engine apart to swap some stuff out ...

                          walnut blast sounds expensive AF

I have mine booked in for tomorrow with Jamie and is costing £290 all in. Maybe not the cheapest thing to have done but I am just viewing it as a 'Major Service' and overall not too bad for the time and skill it takes.

                            • you will not regret it, it is 100% worthwhile and as a bonus Jamie will know almost instantly if their are any major issues with your car
