At this point I'm thinking replace the wheel @ £225 incl. fitting then sell my alloy on ebay. As long as I get £50+ it'll work out cheaper than a repair.

Edit: I'll obviously fit rimblades once replaced to prevent it happening it again!

Is it the alloygators that have clips and need to be hammered onto the wheels once you let some pressure out of the tyres

@lfcrule1972 - yeah think so - the rimblades are "glued" to the rim - so can be removed if they get damaged - they are really easy to fit (if you get a set with decent primer!) - takes about 10-15 mins per wheel - clean with alcohol wipes, put on primer, put on blades - a sort of peel and stick affair, then cut to fit - they are supplied in 22" lengths. Chris has posted a detailed compare and contrast thread on the merits/issues with both types - there is another product called rim ringz which seem to be a clip on affair - someone else on the forum has fitted those - not sure how good they are.

Yes- and they never have a complete seal on the rim so water gets behind
Water doesn't get behind with Rimblades- but then would imagine they are a bit messier to remove (Havent removed any sets yet)

          ed: Happy to help Idgie

              Hi Folks,
Does anyone know if lease companies will allow these rim protectors to be fitted?

I'd give yours a call and ask them to confirm in writing, you could point out that it will protect the wheels (the stick on ones anyway)

How would they know as long as you remove them & clean the wheels before returning the car??

I'd fit them in preference to kerbing them on a lease car

My thoughts exactly, mines a lease & I'm going to fit them regardless once I've changed the wheel.

It'll be an interesting conversation with the dealer at the end of the contract if they try to penalise me for protecting the car!

There's a guy next door to Hanger 111 near Woodbridge/Ipswich that quoted me 120 to have the wheel fully refurbed but takes up to 5 working days!

Can't remember the name of the place though but google was my friend there.

Update: So I've had a complete change of heart after living with it for a week! I'm going to pick up some rimblades tomorrow & see if they do a good enough job at covering up the damage. If they do, I'll get the alloy replaced before the car goes back to the lease company.

^ ^ Yes- getting new wheels is a pricey hobby
Rimblades will cover the damage.....and any kerbing could be viewed as wear and tear after a couple years
Make sure you get the latest Rimblades....with a stick for the adhesive (Not tried them yet altho have a set to fit)
Older sets just don't stick- just ripped two wheels worth of Rimblades off this morning - but was given a refund and forwarded a new set to try, so cant complain

I bought a set from Halfords but they haven't got any of the wipes that should come with it and the backing tape's coming off already so I've ordered some off the Rimblades site and will get a refund of the Halfords set.

If the backing comes off theyre knackered. The latest version has a "stick" as the primer, cleaning wipes are still in the sachet
You would also notice the sticky tape stuff is wider on the pvc rimblade itself
Havent applied my new set yet- did you go for black or silver? or something altogether different

ED|; "Stick" primers not being used now- they were a trial, and although very good were very expensive. Back to the sachets for primer and cleaner
