Oh and I think the slave battery is used for the stop/start system, I believe that stores the charge etc for that system - or I might have imagined all of thatsigpic

Welcome to the club, fellow blonde (although mine hasn't been natural for quite a few years now). It's a shame sellers don't tell you the pitfalls of a diesel/dpf before you buy. I went petrol for that reason and the fact that for the mileage I do the saving on fuel was pathetic. I still get good mpg without the hassle. I think if people who do low mileages looked at what they'd spend on petrol per year vs. what they'd spend on diesel, it's not worth the hassle of having a diesel for a lot of people - that and the fact they're (in some cases) being shown to be killing us!
Anyway, welcome again. The DS3 is a fun car - very much a girlie car in my opinion."I'm a writer. I give the truth scope."

The stop and start system won't operate unless the charge level in the "slave" is at the correct level and that charge is supplied via the alternator.
On a side note Blondegirl you are right about opting for a Petrol is the majority of your journeys are less than 5-10 minutes, the diesel needs driving time to heat in order to fire the regen cycle of the car, short journeys don't really let this happen which in turn causes the filter issues that you seem to be having.
Best bet is to make sure you give the car a good 20 min run at least once a month and you should be fine....I should never have doubted the Lord of Bacon!!

I think the old bangers I drove in the 80s and 90s will have damaged more people than my THP will ever do. Besides it's not the amount of soot, it's the content of what's spewed out...
