However, the service people told me that its the illumination that triggers the power loss (Limp mode) So if it doesnt illuminate then the power wont be lost. I would hope that by altering the tolerances- within parameters of the engine- then maybe the peak would never hit the higher tolerance resulting in no loss of power- so no home in limp mode.

Wish it was that way round, mate!

The illumination may trigger the limp home mode, but its the underlying problems with the THP engine that trigger the illumination - and by altering the tolerances, all that happens is that your inlet valves will need to get even more clogged up before the ECU calls a halt and puts you in limp home mode.

But rest assured that when the warning light eventually illuminates, you'll need to limp to the motoring equivalent of intensive care, cos your engine will be truly crapped out - and you'll probably be out of warranty too.

Very, very p*ssed off about this recall - if it's purpose is as reported, it's dishonest.

        Youre always so positive GAR
Do you still have your THP?

Lucky enough to have almost 2 years warranty left me- if somethings gonna happen would expect be before 2 years!

Yes !! - just turned 30k miles - but please God it'll be gone before it's out of warranty!

When it's working OK, it's fantastic - nothing to touch it for the money - but if only they could make them work properly!

That's the great thing with engines, they learn from prior models faults- still not sure why they don't just have the PCV delete as factory standard as it's that that seems to be causing half the bother

But the Prince/THP engine has been around for ages, and these faults have been widely reported for years. It beggars belief that the problems with it still haven't been ironed out - and that the proposed solution is to stop (or, at worst, delay) the sodding diagnostics from putting it into limp-home mode.

Earlier the THP, the more problems
Its an emissions increase thing doing the PCV delete isnt it?
Not so sure would do the PCV delete on yours NERDY cos its such a recent build- but sure you know more than me
Its the most obvious visual thing to void the warranty- unless you put it back obviously
                      Happy old GAR eh?

Aye, it sounds pretty comical but all we have really is here say from one mechanic or another. Until they put something official down on paper we're all just guessing as to what the update is. I seriously doubt Citroen are stupid enough to try and paint over the cracks on the fault as they'll leave themselves wide open for law suits. More likely the new software us a combination of things including a widening of the alarm tolerances which would explain the need for a cold engine to calibrate them. Who knows at the end of the day

As for the engine being about for ages then yes it has but so has the chevrolet 'big block', about 35 years I think, probably more. The modern incarnation is hardly recognisable as the same engine it started out as because over the years tiny changes were made to make it more reliable and more fuel efficient- just one of those things.

Chris- I'll be undeleting before any warranty work, it makes the engine more responsive, also just as a preventative measure and yes, I think it's an emissions issue

I agree, since we've not got anything on paper we are just speculating.

At least she's safe back with me now, since I've only driven her home and now back to work.. I can't say that I've noticed any change.
Well, she didn't do her "normal" hickup driving out from house today, but that could be just me driving with platform shoes :P
