Cant see why theyre so pricey myself- should see the price of KW. Theyre adjustable (main reason for coilovers) and are bout £1400
Some Coilovers for other cars can be £300 for a complete set- if not less from what I recall

    SPAX are £600 odd
Thats why made my mind up (Decisive me) to go for Springs.

well high majority of 207 owners are using either rokkor or raceland coilovers which are on a buy it now or nearest offer from ebay at under £200 a set! dont know much about them but they have got some really good feedback on the forum!

Research and development costs money, when you think about it, even £1,400.00 divided by 4 is only £350.00 per corner, and when you consider the stresses placed upon the coil over unit, can you really put a price on your life ?

In relation to the cost of the car- supply and install isnt feasible
Even BC at £800- plus £150 to put on, is too much (For me, but thought about it)

Take your point Czar, but theres a limit. Price points are important. Bet not many have been sold

And theyre hardly life threatening- if it were brakes ... fair enough

Not life threatening !! What happens when the shock mount shatters ? Answer, you have no steering control, in my book that's very life threatening.

Should be OK with stock dampers, up to 40mm lowering springs- so ive been told on here?

Here's something to get you thinking, you take your factory stock coil over unit, which has a specific spring rate, with a free travel movement of X before coil bind, the damping piston is valved to suit the corner weight with a set travel length of X

You then come along with a aftermarket spring coil with a spring rate of X, which will lower your car by 40mm, the damping piston inside your factory stock coil over unit, has just lost 40mm of travel, in effect it has lengthened by 40mm, as it now sits 40mm lower down in the housing tube!!

The reduction 40mm in the damping pistons travel could now before full compression hit the base inside the housing tube, time and time again, this will result not only in damage to the factory stock coil over unit, it will repeatedly knock out any suspension geometry, this will have an effect on handling and indeed increase tyre wear.

Furthermore, as you lower your car, you load up your cars anti roll bar, adding a positive load pressure to the anti roll bar is another problem you really don't want or need.

Fair enough. A supplier said to me, get shortened dampers as and when the OEM fail?

Hello again Czar  i think £1400 is alot of money for coilovers for the average joe, my personal preference is the standard set up, yet to change mine back to standard but admittedly i have been too cheap/lazy and not bothered to do it yet lol.

Why not just save up, and get the coil over set complete in the first place ? Stops lots of unnecessary expense, time messing about, and possibly a miserable ride, due to a mismatch of spring rates, factory stock damping, rubber band tyres, etc etc.

Its the overall cost perspective- Jag XF shortly old chap (Well- bout 3 years when theyre less than half price)
Just cant see the cost benefit of Coilovers for the DS3, that when you've set them to right height, then most people just leave them there
So springs- why not. All sportier suspension is miserable ride- thought that was part of the fun

Lets be honest- could walk out my front door tomorrow, trip on a step, and be as a Dodo anyway.

Edited PS- Save £700 and stick it in XF fund, Springs over coilovers

Hello colganraz, to be fair, £1,400.00 is really cheap for adjustable coil overs, look at it this way, a decent set of aftermarket wheels and tyres is about £1,000.00 people will quite happily spend money on those, yet moan at £1.400.00 for what is essentially the link to the road, a coil over set, and the difference between ooh they look pretty (wheels/tyres) and staying on the road with a half decent well matched coil over for when things get tricky!!

A lesson that I was actually capable of learning! Most cars I lowered with springs or springs and shocks and ended up on coilovers later on. Since then just go with coilovers from the start. Although I have had more than one set of coilovers on some cars:rolleyes: to get happy.

How much your KW coilovers Cyclone? Installed?

For a vehicle that costs £15k new, why spend around %10 on installing coilovers? (Me!)

i know i couldnt afford either at over 1k ago, i am a poor apprentice lol. But i know what point you make... surely there is a line though, asin these £1400 coilovers would be suitable for track/race use, surely a £600 decent set would be well enough for daily driving/fast road use?

ohh i knew i had a question for you (off topic) my local motorsport guy, fenton motorsport if you heard of them? one of the guys there told me there is a saying in motorsport, that an old race engine is a fast race engine, you heard this before?
