Might be worth asking the dealer about it Cookies - good to know you had similar noises that were fixed by replacing it

Fast clicking noise from engine/gearbox

I can't tell you how worried i got when driving home from work one day i heard the exact same noise as shown in the video and after a couple of trips to my dealer it SEEMS we have foundthe problem; believe it or not it was the heat shield.
Always in 3rd gear when neither the accelerator nor the clutch were pressed and around 2,500 rpm after half hours drive or so, it turned out the back end of my heat shield was missing most clips. As soon as the citroen mechanic knocked on it to show me the movement i knew it was that noise and now that it's been fixed with cable ties the noise is (mostly) gone. The shield still has slight movement hence the noise but rather than taking it off or paying for a new one I am happy with how it is now.
The head mechanic took the car out for test drives (nearly 20 miles worth) so i know he looked for it properly before raising the car and explained that in 3rd gear the engine may have vibrated at a different rate causing the noise to only be present there. they have mentioned however to keep an eye on it, and if it comes back to go back in.
I will let everyone know if it comes back but at the minute my car is in the garage after a learner driver decided to take my wing mirror off, but for now (fingers crossed) i have faith in the garage and the mechanic himself that it was the heat shield in my car all along making the noise.

This is where my technical expertise ends im afraid when he had mine lifted the back part of my shield sits on top of some sort of pipe and the clips that were meant to hold it up higher were broken. Rather than take it off and expose the underneath he told me he had cable tied it (where i dont know) and ive only heard the noise once since and it was very faint as i was driving alongside a brick wall, so any noise was exaggerated anayway.
I did mention concerns on here about gearbox etc. but he said any problems with the diesel 1.6 hdi gearbox were usually in 5th gear. and the fact it was left hand side meant it was very unlikely to be c
rankshaft pulleys etc.

Yeah mine also came back, no louder than originally though. HOWEVER, when citroen were doing some warranty work under the car they noticed I had a leak coming from the seal attaching to the gearbox and so they had the gearbox out to change it and ever since the noise has completely gone. I don't know the ins and outs of what they did as again this was covered under warranty but since it all came out to change a seal there is no no noise at all so i am convinced it is somehow gearbox related.

Dear friends good morning from Greece. After two days on authorized Citroen service and 100 km of tests in their hands, problem seems to be solved. They cooperate with Citroen France and engineering send here in Greece. They reproduce the noise when the car is on the lift/ramp and they send it I to France. After that Citroen France send back three page's of injector adjustment that they must do on road. Yes, the problem seems to be at the fuel injectors.
After that I have done more than 500km with no noise. The car seems to go better on the road , opens faster and I don't have rattle that I used to have in the first start in the morning especially in winter. I don't know about future but for now it looks great and goes better than my first ride with it. At this point I must say that this noise I heard from the begging when I bought my car but now after 43000 km I said to service. Anyway. I hope I help with my feedback. I have a C4 B7 ehdi 110 2012.
Have a good day.
Vangelis.
